CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
OFFICERS,. AND COMMITTEES. The first meeting of the newly-elected council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon. Mr. J. T. Martin was elected president, in succession to Mr. M. A. Carr, In thanking members for electing- him, Mr. Martin said he felt diffident in' following so able a president as Mr. Carr. The work vi the Chamber reqnired air their co-operation, as mercantile men were now carrying more than an ordinary burden, and concentrated effort was required to secure the amelioration of the present handicaps to commerce. . Mr. A. F. Robertson was elected vicepresident. '• Mr. Carr was heartily thanked for his past services as president. Messrs. D. A. .Ewen, A. Mackenzie, and A. W. Press, new members of the council, were welcomed by the president. Standing committees were appointed as follow:— Hemp: Messrs. A. E. Mabin (convener), F. W. Carey, G. F. Johnston, S. A.
