TRAINING SOLDIERS
During July, 817 service patients attended the classes arranged by the Educational and Vocational Training Branch of th" Defenco Department. Eighty-eight per cent, of the in-patients attended at those hospitals, where classes are maintained Sales of articles made by patients in. occupational and vocational workshops realised £434 6s 7d, of. which £239 3s 7d .was paid to the public account for .materials used, and £195 3s 7d was paid to the recreation funds. Eighty civilian patients attended the classes during the month. The cost of vocational training for each service patient was £1 3s, the lowest yetrecorded. As from Ist August, the Dunedin branch of the Red Cross Society Ks undertaken to control the supply of tools and material, and tho disposal of produce at tho Dunedin contres (Dunedin Hospital, Pleasant Valley, Montccillo, Wa kari,' and Woodsido). Instructresses are still provided by tho Defence Department, and patients will have the profits realised from tho sale of their work as in the past.
