The Wellington 13 representative team commenced its tour nt Palmereton North* on Saturday afternoon with a. match against a combined team from Man-awafca and Horowhonua. Considerable difficulty was experienced in getting players to make the trip,, and, as a result, the

team was practically a scratch ono for the first match, being without combination. On tho other hand, the Mana-watu-Horowhenua team was having its preliminary boforo meeting the Springboks on Wednesday. •Wellington were completely outclassed, mainly in the forwards, and could do little "to sijem the repeated rushes by their well-tuned 1 opponents. Wellington. —Full-back, Brook; threequarters, Gibson, M'Cabe, Bullard; h'vecighths, Corner (captain) and WaJtere; half, Matheson; forwards, Ashton (wing), Pole, Wylie, Love, Booker, Malic, Tull, and Perry. , Manowatu-HoTOTOhennii. — Full-back, Marshall; three-quarterg, Glendinning, Eglinton, Leeder; five-eishths Ford an«j MacDonaJd; half, MaTre; forwards, Jacobs (wing), captain, Carroll, Bevan, Harkness,' fiustin, Moytrihan, Broughton, and Galpin. The local forwards started off strenuously, and before long a kick by Brook was smothered, and, Galpin being handy, was enabled to score an easy try, which Pustin converted. In subsequent play Walters and Gibson did good work for the visitors. To this the home backs and forwards replied with bright movements, Dustin finally fooling VvelHngton's backs and letting Jacobs go over. The kick failed. Glendinning later outpaced the visiting backs, and scored near the posts. The try was not converted. After Tull had made, an un. successful kick at goal, the home team engaged in an attractive bout Qf .passing,' from ' which Carroll scored. With the score 14-0 Wellington rallied, and Bullard, Garner, and Mafcheson were associated in a spectacular passing rush, Matheson scored, but Tull failed to convert. TUWf. half-time Manawatu had added another try, obtained by Glendirming, 17—3.

In the second spell Manawatu had everything their own way, and quickly piled on the scores. Tries were obtained •by lieeder, Canroll, Swainson (who replaced Eg-linton), Glendinning; and Leeder, in that order.: Swainson converted four, making the score 40—3. Wellington then made :\. brief rally, and, when near tha line, Love secured and got across. Tull failed with the kick. Manawatu again set about scoring, tries being registered by Ford, Leeder, M'Ponald, and Marshall (full-back). Leeder converted one and Swainson two, Thermal score was: Manawa-tn-Horowheriua 58, Wellington B 6. .
