OVERLANDS REDUCED,, The curtailment of the train service won't inconvenience you if you own an Overland. And now the Overland Four costs £395, instead of £465, which means the Overland buyer saves £70. It has been proved by many Overland owners that it. is cheaper to own an Overland than to travel by train. The Overland Four does thirty miles to the gallon and uses the lowest-priced tires on the market. This actual running cost per mile is under 2d, whereas train travelling coats 2jd per mile. ' Then the special springing, of the Overland Four is one of the greatest features of modern motoring. ■■* It gives the easy motion of heavy expensive cars —the Overland takes the bumps out of the rough and rutty roads. CHICAGO MURDERS, A recent article in the Evening Post contained the statement that in 1916 Greater London had 9 murders, whereas Chicago^—before national prohibitionhad 105. At the annual meeting of the Chicago Crime Commission held 13th January, 1921, it was reported that during the prohibition year, 1920, murders decreased in Chicago 51 per cent., as compared with 1919; burglaries were 10 per cent, and robberies 6 per cent, less than in 1919. The number of disorderly conduct arrests—which include bi/t do not separately specify drunks—was 32,305 in 1920 against 38,633 in 1919. In Greater London the convictions—convictions, not arrests—for drunkenness only in 1919 vrero 21,053, over 107 per cent, increase, and in the month of December that year they were nearly four times as great as in December, 1918. According to tHe N.Z. Official Year Book, convictions for drunkenness increased over 9 per cent.' in 1919 as compared with 1918, the figure's being, 6999 in 1918 and 7656 in 1919. Breaches of the licensing laws by publicans went up from 360 in 1918 to 486 in 1919—again the figure is for convictions. The total convictions in the Supreme Courts were--419 in 1919 as against 310' in 1918. In' the Magistrates' Courts they were 671 in 1919 against ,525 in 1918. The ."same authority shows .'that the consumption of intoxicating beverages per head of population—including Maoris—increased while.the crime was increasing, being for 1918 9.82 gallons, and for 1919, 12.43 gallons per head.' Cutting out the liquor traffic in Chicago reduced crime; increased consumption of intoxicating liquor in N.Z. produced increased crime.—N.Z. Alliance Publicity (10).—Advt. \
