NEW ZEALAND CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP.
On Saturday next the Five-mile Dominion Cross-country Championship will be fought out at the Hutt Park Racecourse. This race should be well worth watching, and, as it is twice round a 2£ mile .course, spectators should have an excellent view of the event. The Wellington team was chosen after the Provincial Championship held on the 6th August, the team selected being Moore (Olympic Harriers), Todd, Bell, arid Barclay (Brooklyn Harriers), and Scatchard (Olympic. Harriers). Otago is sending up a strong team, including Frye, last year's individual champion, and that fine runner, Beatson, and they have every hope of securing the championship banner they lost to Wellington last-year. The composition of Canterbury's team is not yet known, while it is understood that the Queen City will not be represented. However, a keen struggle may be looked for between Otago ajid Wellington; while several runners outside the actual teams will be making strenuous bids for individual honours. The local harrier bodies have been working very hard to ensure a successful meeting,'and, in addition to receiving strong support from the public, they are hoping to secure the. encouragement of the Wellington Athletic Centre. A reception will be accorded the visiting teams at Dustih's Rooms in Cuba-street after tho event.
