A RETRIAL,
His Honour Mr. Justice Reed and a jury of twelve, of which Mr. R. R. Oerar is 'foreman, are engaged at the Supreme Court this afternoon with the retrial of a watersicLer, Hendry Mearns, upon a charge of stealing, or alternatively of receiving, a quantity of butter, valued at £5, (the property of persons 'unknown. The police were called to Mearns's house to settle a domestic difference, and one Edith M'Morran then accused Mearns of stealing, the butter, which was found in » barrel in the house. Later M'Morran denied-that her first statement was true, and said'that she had accumulated.' the store of butter in v a lawful manner. The jury which considered the case last week was unable to agree upon a verdict, and accordingly thei retriaU was ordered.
