SKIN AND HIDE SALES
The usual fortnightly Wellington sale of hides, skins, tallow, .etol,' was held on Friday, the total offering. being 3095 hides and calfskins and 4300 sheepskins. There was a fair attendance of buyers, demands were very limited, • and in. consequence biddings for the majority of lots were restricted. Dry sheepskins were hard to quit, whilst salteds declined from 6d to 9d. Prices were as follow:—Fine crossbred, i 2d to 2Jd; medium coarse crossbred, l^d I to 24d; short to half wools, id to 2Jd; ' lambs, 23d; dead and damaged crossbred, id to lid; inferior and badly damaged, id to Id; damp, salted, and preen, Is to ' 2s 3d; lambs, salted, Is to Is 6d. ' "Heavy hides | were in demand at late rates; mediums were difficult of sale; lights wore firm at a slight advance; yearling and calf in good demand. Prices were as follow:—Ox, heavy, 591b up, 7|d to.MW; ox,<-medium, 501b-581b, 4d to 98; ox, light, 491b and under, 33d to 6d; cut, slippy, and inferior. 3^d to 7d; cow, Heavy, 551b and over, 5W to 6?d; cow, medium, 421b to 541b, 3Jd to 6|d; cow, light, under 421b, 3?d to s|d; cut, slippy, and inferior, Id to Aid; bull, stag, Id to 2gd; yearlings, 111b to 321b. 4d to Hid; calf, superior, up to 101b. 9id to 16d; calf, medium (good, up to 101b, 7§d to 16id; calf, damaged, up to 101b, id to IOJd. Tallow. —As compared with the sales ' held during the.last four months, yesterday's competition brightened, and values, according to quality, showed an advance of from 2s to 6s per cwt. In casks, 19s to 29s j in tins, etc., 13s 6d to 20s 6d. Sundries. —Horse-hair, Is4£d.
