LYALL BAY WANTS
Various matters were dealt with at a meeting of the Lyall Bay Municipal Elqcors' Association last evening. Mr. J. M. Bertram presided.
A report dealing with tramway matters, as raised by a recent deputation to the tramway authorities was read. The following requests from the eastern suburbs had, been mentioned to the authorities :— (1) Changeover tickets at Kilbirnie; (2) duplication of line by Kilbirnie Reserve; (3) blinds on cars to be lowered to' shelter passengers from rain and wind. The delegates reported having received a sympathetic hearing, and careful consideration would be given to , the deputation's requests. '; The Civio League proposal was digcu«sed, and a report was handed in by delegates who attended the inaugural meetingof;the City League. _Mr. Leuchara and Mr. Leslie 'Jones said the association should support the Civio League. Mr. A. C. Blake moved, and Mr. Leuchars seconded: "That this meeting affirms the desirability: of creating a Wellington Civio League, and gives this association's representatives power to act." The motion was carried. , ' ■ ■ ,\ The association was asked to draw the council's attention to the insanitary state of tho drain outside Mr. Flipp's butcher's shop, near Kilbirnie Post Office.
The association will ask tho Eastern Suburbs League to define the boundaries between Kilbirnie and Lyall Bay. "A tramway to Melrpse," agitated for by the Melrose> Association, was discussed. The latter body requested assistance from neighbouring associations, and the Lyall Bay Association decided to assist Melrose in its claim for a tramway through Melrose to the top of Sutherland-road, It was stated there was ample ground for building sites in Melrose. The association approved of the Cirio League constitution a» a whole, with suggested minor alterations which its delegates will bring before the Civio League.
