ANGLICAN BOYS' HOME
Much interest is always taken in the Anglican Boys' Home at the Lower Hutt, and there was a large attendance of ladite at a meeting held yesterday afternoon at Bethune's Buildings, convened by Mrs. Sprott. In introducing .the subject, Mrs. Sprott stated that at a meeting held about a year ago it was resolved to hold' a street-sale day in 1921, and the .time had come to make arrangements for a successful occasion. She then proposed that ! ' Lady Luke should be the president, and take the chair.
Mr. 0. E. Levin, organising secretary, spoke of the progress of the society, _ saying that in 1919 the tota-Lsub-scrlptkinS and donations to the housing fund and cot fund were £443; in 1920 the total was £531, In ,1921 the figure was £4147, which, With £2066 raised by the Ladies' Auxiliary, was brought up to £6213. The expenditure incurred in raising this sum was about £600. A committee of business men had'advised the purchase, of the site, and it had been approved by the^ .Chief Health Officer. The Ladies' Auxiliary amount was contributed net, Nineteen hundred pounds was still due oil the purchase of the new home. Money is required not only to extinguish this debt and fof firrniehing, but £110q annually is necessary for the maintenance of the home, and sixty boys; the balance of the £1600, it is estimated, Will be provided by maintenance fees. Mr. Levin mentioned that while the ladies were collecting goods, etc..,' for the street sale toward the upkeep of the home, it was proposed they should all try to get annual donations promised from 5s upwards, as it was, thought a great many friends would do this, instead, of making things for the different stalls. ,
