NAUTICAL INQUIRY
ROTHESAY BAY-CALM COLLISION.
(II TILtSRAPH.—PRESS AHOCIATIOIi.) DUNEDIN, 11th August.. A nautical inquiry into the collision between the barque Eothesay Bay and the steamer Calm in the lower hnrbonr on 7th July has commenced. Captain Campbell, master of thfe barque, stated that the vessel arrived from Hobart with timber, and was towed to the Carey Bay anchorage. Riding lights were put in position. When he came on deck 'after the shoc.k he hailed the steamer, 1 asking for its name, but he beard no reply.
Questions submitted by the Department were whether Captain Braidwood, master of the Calm, failed to keep a sufficient look-out or keep tho Calm sufficiently to the starboard side of the channel; whether Captain Campbell failed to display and keep burning proper lights; whether the Harbour Board pilot failed to anchor the barque at a -safe anchorage far eriough in tho fairway.
It -was staled that a further possible question might be whether, the Oalin failed to give a name .when hailed..
