FOUR CENTRBS COMPARED.
The Gazette contains the following comparative table of the death-rate per 1000 of population in the four cities and corresponding metropolitan areas (given in parentheses) for July :—Auckland, 1.13 (1.01); Wellington, 0.74 (0.67); Christchurch, 0.94 (0.95); Dunedin, 1.30 (1.21). Including the suburban portions, Dunedin is the highest and Wellington the lowest. Compared with July, 1919 and 1920, the results for the metropolitan areas are :— . 1919. 1930. 1921., Auckland 0.93 1.03 * 1.011 Wellington (. 0.81 1.0 0.67 Christchurch 1.05 1.25 0.95 Dunedin -0.7,. 1.28 1.21 ? The total births registered for the four metropolitan areas were 715, as against 701 in June —an increase of 14. The deaths in July were 421—an increase of tributed 225, females 196. Seventy-four month. Of the total deaths males contributed 225, females 193. Seventy-four of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 17.5 per cent, of the whole number, j Sixty of these were tindflr one year of age.
