BILLIARDS
INTER-CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP.
The final. of the inter-club billiards championship at Billiards, Ltd., was won last night by Tucker (Federal Club), who defeated Tapp (Working Men's Club). Play commenced very nervously, both men failing for a while on the simplest of shots. Tucker was the first to gain command of himself, and secured a comfortable lead before Tapp commenced really to play, and the latter then drew to within a few points of the leader. Scores: Tucker, 101; Tapp, 82. The second and.third centuries also were Tucker's, Tapp being only a small break behind. When Tucker was 301, Tapp, for the first time, passed him,- reaching 311. Here, however, Tucker again drew ajvay, and reached 401, Tapp being 341. The balls were running very badly for Tapp, and somewhat kindly for his opponent, who was a little fortunate in securing difficult shots that are particularly easy to miss. There can, however, be no question; that the Federal Club representative was at this stage playing the better game. When Tucker was 407, Tapp was' only 26 behind, and with a little more care the latter ought to have gained the ascendancy, and he was' unwise in responding to the leader's safety tactics by making openings for him. Tucker took the fullest advantage of these, and was able to get his 500 points 93 ahead. The best breaks were: Tucker,,3s, 29, 29, 26, 25; 22; Tapp, 41, 32, 25 V and 22. The refereeing and marking were capably done by. Messrs. Dyohberg and Forster. Prizes were presented by Billiards, Ltd., and the firm was heartily cheered for the excellent conditions provided the players and the public.
