ISLAND BAY FISHERIES
LANDING JETTY AND OTHER FACILITIES. "•■
In October last year the Marine Department approached the City Council' with a proposal that the Department* and the/City should share the cost of the construction of a landing jetty for the fishermen at Island Bay. Subsequently the council agreed to spend £1250 on the proposal, but up till- jusT recently nothing further was done. The Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P.), when questioned by a representative of Vh» Post to-day, stated that plans for the proposed works were now being prepared. When these were completed a conference would be held between the interested parties with !th» object of arriving at an agreement. The City Council, he said, would stand by its commitment, but would not be prepared to go beyond the figure already named. The fishermen themselves had asked that some additional facilities should be included in the scheme. These, of'course, would be considered, but the question of granting them hanged on the financial arrangements. .
