RED CROSS AND ORDER OF ST. ' JOHN.

While it is etill liable for supplies to hospital ships and ambulances, clothing and comfortss, for sick and wounded, medical stores and equipment for medical services of the army, and navy, and to contribute aid to sick and wounded irrespective of naturality, even though British forces are not engaged, a further work is to enrol men arid women holding first aid and home liuTsing certificates into voluntary aid detachments for home service. These are to render assistance in cases of great public disaster, calamity, or need; to provide, so far as is practicable within the means in its power, the improvement of health, prevention of disease, and mitigation of suffering throughout the world, whether in peace or in war. Further work is the providing of extra, comforts for inmate 3 of military hospitals and veterans' homes, and the provision of equipment for vocational of returned soldiers, sailors, or auxiliaries, and to subscribe to or collect .for any Red Cross purpose inside or outside New Zealand. The council will control all work, with committees in sub-centres. The work outlined is great in extent and importance, and need 3 solid support to carry it out on the lines suggested, which are in accord with the work of tho Red Cross and Order of St. John throughout the world.
