Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, Minister of Defence, wiH return to Wellington from the South. Island to-morrow. His Honour Mr.-Justice Salmond, with his secretary, Mr. J. M. "Gamble, will leave for Wanganui on Monday. The Victoria College Council last night expressed its sympathy with one of its members' (Mr. A. R. Atkinson) in the death of his wife. . Dr. T. Thomson was last night elected chairman, of the geological section of the Wellington Philosophical Society, and Mr. H. T. Ferrar, the retiring chairman, was elected vice-chairraau.
