ITS FUTURE ASSURED,

SYDNEY, This Day.
M. Henri Vorbrugghen has announced that the State Orchestra's future is assured. He also stated that Dame Melba had subscribed £100 to, the fund. [It was announced in February last that the New South Wales Government had decided to disband the State Orchesxra. Mr. Verbrugghen stated that this course would not only be a. loss to the musical community, but a calamity to the citizens and to culture generally. He had every confidence that there were sufficient enthusiasts in Sydney to help keep the orchestra going. Subsequently an appeal was made in all the States for the sum of £10,000. Meetings were held and considerable enthusiasm shown, but the disposal of chares hung fire, and in ,May it was announced that the services of members of the orchestra would be dispensed with on 31st August if tho guarantee was not forthcoming. return of Dame Melba evidently has given the final fillip to the movemiotj j
