SAN FKANCISCO MAIL. STEAMER. The E.M.S. Marama, en routo from San Francisco to Wellington and Sydney, continued her voyage from Papeete on the 6th August. She is due hero on the 16th August.

The C. and D. Line is in receipt of a report from the- chief engineer of the Port Caroline, which arrived at Brisbane recently from Wellington. It will be remembered that while the Port Caroline was at Wellington she had repairs carried out to her starboard turbine. In the course of his remarks the chief «ngineer says:—"After leaving Wellington for the first few hours the engines turned 60 revolutions, and then I increased the speed two revolutions a minute per day for the next two days, the fourth day to 74.8, and for the last four hours before arriving 83 revolutions, giving a speed of 13,7 knots per hour. We had no trouble, and I am pleased to report'that the starboard turbine worked splendidly the whole way." ■'
