TRAMPING GLUB

Members of the Tararua Tramping Club held a "social" in the Dominion Fanners' Institute last night, when Mr W. 11. Field, M.P., presided. Features of the gathering ; were the addresses given by Mr. J. Myers, F.E.S., on the Tararua track from a naturalist's point of view; Mr. F.. Vosseler, on a tramp across the ranges, and Mr. A. C. Gifford, on "stars" and their usefulness as a guide. ; Mr. My«ars, by means of the lantern, placed before the audience most interesting studies of Nature met with during his journey acjoss Mount Hector from Otaki to the Wairairapa. He explained 1 the life-history of the ordinary saradfly, and his audience went with him. (in' imagination) across the range, where various birds, rare moths, and even rare species of bate were pointed out. It was a most interesting lecture, and was thoroughly enjoyed, as were the addresses given by Messrs. Vosseler and Giffoi*d. The proceedings included, instrumental and vocal' items, the contributors being : Mr. O. Tucker (flute solo). Miss Hooper (song), Miss Masey (song), Mr. Sargent (song).
