TIMARU, 9th August. An inquest was.held at Temuka yesterday into the death of the infant sort of Native parents named Rickus^ The mother and another Maori womaiT were wheeling perambulators on one side of the main road, which was newly shingled in the Huddle- when a car driven by^a. farmer* wife, Mrs. S. Connolly, came along behind them. One mother turned out of the track to the right, and Mrs. Rickus turned into the shingle. The car also turned that way, andfbefore it was stopped struck the perambulator broadBide on, and threw the infant into the shingle, death following shortly after from concussion of the brain. The Coroner's finding recounted the facts, and addid a rider that car-drivers should be licensed on proof of ability to drive. Another inquest was held at t'emuka to-day in regard to the death of - a rabbiter. Medical evidence was given to .the effect that in mixing strychnine poison once a week without precautions deceased absorbed enough in email doses to result in , his death.
