PLENTY OF COAL
AUSTRALIAN EMBARGO LIFTED
Tho lifting of the embargo on Newcastle coal, announced yesterday, means that New Zealand will be relieved of all anxiety as far as the. coal supply is concerned. At least,: it was put that way by one of the city mercnants who discussed the position with a Post representative to-day. New Zealand, he said, would be in a position to command a fuD supply of high-quality' coal, and there were already indications of a drop in prices. Manufacturers, gas companies, and municipal bodies carrying on trading concerns such as tramways, should benefit greatly. No longer would they need to buy "outside" cargoes at ejihanoed prices—prices which they have been quife prepared to pay merely because they feared a shortage. The lifting of the embargo will probably have another effect, namely, the winding up of the Coal Control Department.. A statement in that connection is expected shortly.
