RACING PERMITS
ISSUE TO OLD, CLUBS
CABINET DECISION REVEBSED.
The Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. Downio Stewart) yesterday made the following announcement:—' 'i have submitted sto Cabinet, in ..accordance- with my promise, tho representations received from a large number of members of Parliament, all of whom object to any action being taken with regard to totalisator permits, before Parlia-' ment has had an opportunity of considering the Eacing Commission's report. These representatioris have been very carefully considered, and it hns now been decided that action will not be taken on the report until the will of Parliament is known. Consequently the ordinary procedure will "be observed, as in previous years, for a reasonable time after the meeting of Parliament. This will necessitate the issue of permits to clubs previously holding them until 30th November. The only desire of the Government has been to ,keep faith .. witli members of Parliament, in order that tho report may be dealt with on its merita, and not ba prejudiced by action taken before' Parliament ;meets." • .
This reverses the previous decision of the Minister and' Cabinet that permits should not be issued to clubs which were cut out by the Commissioner until Parliament had considered the report.'
