AS OTHERS SEE US

TO THE IiDITOR. Sir, —Reading my Saturday's Post I eamo across a letter signed "Visitor." This letter boars internal evidence of the fact that it was written by a New Zealander who did not by any means love eithor Wellington or the Wellingtonians. There is a streak of jealousy running through the- whole epistle, a petty faultfinding spirit in every line, and the "narrow parochial view" (I use his own words) is not absent. Has "Visitor" been going atout with his eyes shut, or is he somo social spoilt child who has not been taken up by his new neighbours?—in the language of the street, "what's biting him?" I arrived in -Wellington over twelve months ago from a town in the Old , Country with a population of close on two millions. I was vary quickly impressed by the {act that the inhabitants of Wellington were broad-minded, alert, and_ decidedly sportsmen. This is, as tba saying is, "an entirety unsolicited testimonial" which "Visitor's" attack gives mo the opportunity of "throwing off." ' Being iust, I am ready to make allowances for a mixed community. I have invariably found the inhabitants of Wellington most approachable, good-hearted, and over ready to meet an inquiring stranger half-way. They are proud of their town, and believe, in its future. "Visitor," I am sure, will admit that thoro cannot bo nropjress if this spirit is wanting. TTps "Visitor" over been in the United StntflS?
