HOSPITAL v. WATERSIDERS.

A great dea.l of interest was created in the Hospital-Waterside match, which was played at Porirua. A large following from' town was present, and the ground •wal^ in excellent condition. Watersiders kicked off, and play at once became very fast, with the town team attacking. A nice piece of play by Jones put Hospital on the defensive, but Cauvin shot over the bar. Thp play was at once transferred, and Haw

kins, in goal, was tested by I'erguson and Daily, but had no difficulty; in clearing. Several fine runs by Coburn I and M'Kinley aroused the crowd, but the home defeuce was solid, and the : fullbacks, WaHis and J. Ferguson, pi-oved too much _every time. * Play ' was fast and exciting, and the tackling gave the forwards no time for" dallying. Jones, who was continually applauded for clever work, repeatedly broke up the HospitaJ, attack and put them on the ' dofensiVo with passes to his forwards. A good centre from Daily ended in Dick sending in a hot shot, which was splendidly saved by Hawkins at the : expense of a corner. Hospital were now pressing hotly, but Beasley and I Hart, at full-back, were lacking well ! far. the visitoru. Some good play by i Thompson, and Kiordan checked Water--1 siders, and tho former's kick enabled Daily to obtain another corner. i The kick was beautifully placed,- and, curling into goal, was just touched by Hawkins. Hospital I—o. A great in- ! dividual effort by Ferguson almost succeeded, but Batten cleared in time, arid . transferred to Cauvin, who got right away, but Thompson rndhied in and gave a corner. Several stoppages occurred for minor breaches of the rules, mostly'"hands," but the play continued keenly. Towards half-time Jackstoiie broke away and, Cauvin also made a great effort, but the defence was equal i to every demand. The second half opened with Wateralders making a great effort to equalise. A rush by the Hospital forwards ended in Daily heading the ball into the. net, but ho was ruled offside. Dick passed to Ferguson, who sent on to, Hughes, whose shot went wide. Batten relieved the pressure by pretty football; and eventually sent in a shot to Porteous, his first real test. Cauvin and Leach also became dangerous, but the visitors' shooting was generally poor. Hawkins brought off a very clever save with all the forwards on him. : A free-kick against Watereiders for "hands" was well placed by J.. Ferguson, and in- the melee in front of the goal, 1 Tyson headed into the net. Hospital 2—o. j The Hospital now felt much easier, but the efforts of the visitors did not relax, and they continued to put Tip a great fight. After a good deal of give-and-take play a Hospital rush' stamped Hawkins, who pushed out two shots, but could not prevent Daily from making the score. . Hospital 3—o. . Wright, who had been playing a splendid game in the ( halves for the home team, stoppedi several 'dangerous rushes. The gams continued fast and exciting. Mr. W. G. Bitco refereed.
