The Anglican Bishop of Wellington .(Dr. Sprott) will visit Masterton, Carterton, Greytown, and Pahiatua in the latter part of October to hold coflfirmation services.

Mr. C. O.\ Hntton, a\ well-known solicitor, and a very popular resident of Wanganui,-died suddenly to-day, as the result of a seizure, states a Press Association telegram from Wanganui. •

Mr. C. R, Orr Walker, the new Chief Justice of Samoa, will leave Auckland for Samoa, on 20th August. Prior to his recent appointment as Chief Justice Mr. Walker was stationed at New Plymouth as a Stipendiary Magistrate.

A Press Association telegram from Blenheim announces the death of Mr. George Houldsworth, aged 82, who arrived in the province sixty veais ago. He'was a member of most of the local bodies, and Mayor of Blenheim on two occasions.

The Rev. Wm. Bullock, organising secretary of the Church of "> England's Men's Society, who has just completed a tour of the Auckland Province, returns to Wellington to-morrow. He will remain at , the, headquarters office in Wellington for about a fortnight before proceeding to the Christchurch district.

The Rev. Edward G. P. Lee, formerly Vicar of All Saints' Church and headmaster of St. Paul's College (Junior Association), Hongkong, is to arrive by the Manuka to-day. Mt Lee has' been engaged by the Anglican Church to take charge of the Chinese Mission in the dioceses of Wellington, Christcliurch, and Waiapu. His headquarters will be in Wellington. • ■

An old resident, in the person of Mr. Michael Maher, died at the residence of Mt. Healey, Thomdon-quay, .last week, at.the age of 87 years. Mr. Maher's parents were amongst the very early settlers, and experienced all the hardships and vicissitudes incidental to early oolonial life. Mr. ■ Maher, in the- early days, was in the service of the late Hon. W. B. Rhodes at Wadestown. Afterwards he was.in the railway service, and was stationmaster at Eketahuna and. Upper Hutt., The funeral, which was a private one, by desire, took place at the, Bacilica last week. •
