Severe damage was caused in the premises of a firm of auctioneers and house furnishers in Auckland during last week's storm. When the staff arrived in the morning they discovered that a great quantity o£ • rain-water had- penetrated the roof and had percolated through three floors, extensively damaging the furniture, carpets, rugs, and other stock. The damage, it was discovered, was caused in the first place through the blockage with papei of the rain pipes leading from the roof. An immense quantity of water had apparently banked up between a sft parapet and the slope of the roof, with the result that streams of water were forced upward and backward through the layers of corrugated iron roofing. The greatest amount of damage was caused in the first floor, where the. water gathered after cassins through the roof and two upper floors. The Nonpareil and Ivy Assembly holds a weekly dance in St. Peter's Hall, Ghuznee-street, Tuesday evenings. A special feature for to-morrow is a championship waltzing competition. ; A waltz assembly, under the management of Messrs. J. Carlyle and A.
