At present, judging 1 from a multiplicity of subjects a.~ci the_ scope qf examinations, the mental capacity of secondary school girls n.ust- bo regarded by offioiaU in hign authority as well nigh unlimited. Tho secondary schools will never thrive until there is appointed to the Department a sympathetic and enlightened secondary 6cbco! expert—preferably a. woman—with a wide knowledge of modern developments!. Bat in New Zealand such things need not be hoped for.-— HOPE ABANDONED. " 3rd August.
