A SIX-MONTHS' COMPARISON, ..
The Minister, of Customs (the Hon. W. Downie Stewart) made available today the following retrain shoinj^ jfcha total value of the imports into and tba ■exports from New Zealand during the six months ended 30th, June, 1920 and 1921 respectively.:—
The figures disclose an improved eittia* tioa for tiie first six mowtlis of this year as compared with the corresponding ■period of 1920. "Whereas in the six months of 1920 imports exceeded exports by £1,373,802, the '-'debit" for the sis ■mouths of this year hag fallen to £986 - 060. It is afeo' worthy of note that whil'a imports hove increased by £3,992,193 in v?h%' n Uvi 8 val»e fo» improved by £4,379,935. The latter improvement is ■of especial interest when it is remembered that there has been a fall in the ipnce of everything exjported foom New ■Zealand except butter a,nd cheese, the prices' for which recently receded, bu* •recovered slightly owing to the drought >in Great Britain.
