MELBOURNE. /10th May. It is announced that E. Newton, Who has been detained on the Riverina r.t Sydney, will be allowed to land in Australia.
[B. Newton, a native of Dunedin, was detained by the Customs, officers on tho Riverina, when she arrived at Sydney from Auckland this week. He has been aboard since the vessel left on her Unit trip to Auckland, where he was not permitted to'-land as he refused to take the oath of allegiance, which he contends was introduced during his absence from Now Zealand. He denies that hn is'disloyal, but states that his conscience will not permit him to take the oath, either in Australia or in New Zealand.]
