The story is of a girl, educated in England, who discovers on her return to her father in Fiji that he has married a. native woman, and her despair on learning the.truth is followed by a mad desire to revert to the semi-savage state of her maternal ancestors. A bitter struggle between the white man and the native ruler of the island follows.
