SWIMMING CHAMPION

LUDY LANGER TO RE-APPEAR. The announcement that Ludy Langer, the wonderful middle-distance swimmer, is to make another appearance in Wellington will come as a pleasant surprise to the many poople who were unable to make use o£ the recent opportunities of witnessing the finest exponent of swimming who has ever visited New Zealand. It will also be appreciated by those who have seen Langer in action, as in his exhibitions there was found much of an instructive character. Realising these facts, tlie Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association made every effort to reoure another visit from Langer, and tho visitor, having fallen in with the desire, arrangements have been made for the champion to appear at tho Topid Baths on Tuesday evening next. It is confidently expected that the centre's activity in the matter will have tha reward of an enthusiastic gathering on the occasion of danger's final appearance. At the last carnival in the visitor gave splendid evidence of Iris capabilities by covering 440 yds in ten seconds taster time than the existing New Zealand record. Since then, Langer, at Christchnrch, has done oven better than that by 1 2-sr.ee, so that there is every indication of tho champion showing his best form nest week. In order to givo everybody a chance of seeing tho swimmer, the centre has arranged for popular prices to be ohaiged. For the majo. rity of soats the charg© would be one shilling, and the remainder, few in num. ber, would be available for two shillings. The programme drawn iip for the occasion is of a, first-olass order, tho chief eventa boing invitation races, in which Langor will compete A ladies' raco, diving, and comic events will add to the evening's enjoyment. All arrangements for the gathering havo been made, and the centre officials are to be' commended for their action in securing a reappearance of tho world's greatest middle-distance swimmer.
