Two fires occurred in, Wellington during the week-end. Shortly after midnight on Saturday the brigade was called to No. 1, Glencoe-street, a house owned and occupied by Mr. John Bates. The house was completely destroyed, and the house adjoining was badly damaged on one side, the contents being slightly damaged. Mr. Bates's house was insured, for £300 in the Atlas Insurance office, but the contents were not covered.

The occupants weTe absent at the time of the fire. A wall dividing the kitchen from the dining-room was destroyed, and considerable, damage waa done to the ceiling and roof. The house was of five rooms, and was owned by Mr. Hornig. It was insured in the Standard office for £600, and the furniture was covered in the same office by a policy for £200.

A two-story private motor-garage situated in Woburn-rqad, Lower Hutt, caught fire about 3.30 o'clock this morning, and with its contents was totally destroyed. The garage belonged to Mr. G. A.
