DR. MANNIX IN PARIS
PARIS, 15th April. Irish residents entertained Archbishop Mannix at dinner. In an interview Dr. Mannix said the Pope had asked him to be hie intermediary in condemning •the acts of compatriots in Ireland. "I refused," said Dr. Mannix, " and showed the Hob Father that {here was something fine and heroic in Sinn Fein's war against Britain. The Pope finally'agreed that British policy in Ireland was shocking." Dr. Mannix declared that the persistent rumours that the Vatican in- 1 tended to issue a condemnation of Irishmen's efforts "Ob obtain the freedom of their country was merely English propaganda. ■
