WATERSIDE WORKERS' BAND.

The Wellington Waterside Workers' Band gave the first concert of the 1921 season at the Grand Opera House last evening. That the reappearance of the band, always a popular combination, was welcome, was plainly demonstrated by the fact that some hundreds of prospective patrons were unable to secure accommodation. Supporting the band were a number of Wellington's leading artists, and each performer had to respond to insistent, encores. Master John Watters, the boy soprano^ who won several prizes at the last Wellington competitions, sang with fine effect "The Dear Little Shamrock" and "Time's Old, Sweet Song," both of which were greatly enjoyed. With his brother, Master Cecil Watters, he sang "Larboard Watch," and "Sing, Sing, Birds on the Wing." Wellington's 1 charming_ soprano, Mice Teresa M'Enroe, was in fine voice, and her singing of "The Enchanted Forest," "Just AVearyin' for You," "Annie Laurie," and, "The Wren" was one of the features, of the concert. Another attraction was the appearance of Mr. Herbert F. Wood, who sang "The Wandering Minstrel" and "The Kerry Dance," responding to encores with "Finnicula" and "O Sole Mio." The band items were all excellently treated. The programme commenced with the march "Australasia" (Riminer) and Suppe's enchanting overture, "Poet and Peasant." Then followed the popular valse item, "Lazy Aliseissippi," which was particularly ■well played, the strong points of Rollo de Freyne's composition being well brought oijt. Another popular item was the playing of selections from Wallace's musical grand opera, "Maritana." The programme "concluded with the stirring march "Franconia" (Greenwood). Mr. Frank Crowiber acted v accompanist.
