On the"eve of his second session'as a member.;of Parliament, Mr W D Powdrell, Reform member for Patea has died after an illness extending over several weeks. Mr. PowdTell was born at Wairoa, Hawkes Bay, in 1872 but spent most of his Jife in the Tavanaki district, where he had laTge farmin" .interests. Among other things ho was managing director, of the Kaupokonui Dairy Company, a,director of the North Island Dairy Association, chairman of the latea I'armeiV Freezing Company, director of the Egmont Box Company director of the New Zealand Bacon and Meat Packing Company; and director of the Tarannki Fanners' Mutual Fire Insurance Company. While the Imperial cheese contract was in operation he represented the cheese producers in consultation with the Board of Trade, and he acted on various Committees of the House of Representatives appointed to consider agricultural matters. Mr. Powdrell won the Patea seat in the interests of the^ Reform Party at the 191X1 Gen^ eral Election. He was a strong supporter of the Prohibition movement, and was chairman of the Prohibition League for the Te Kuiti-Wanganui district.
