Tho conference of engineers of the Public Works Department was expected to close this afternoon. The proceedings have not been open to the press, but it is understood that those in attendance have accepted the invitation of the Minister of Public Works to criticise candidly the organisation and work of the Department Many suggestions for labour-saving aro also understood to' have been brought forward and will receive due consideration. *
