LONDON, Ist March. The Australian Emigration Office was opened to-day on the ground floor of Australia House, facing Aldwych, which was formerly the Commonwealth Bank's military branch in war-time. The department will be renamed the Commonwealth Migration and Settlement Department, the use of the term emigration being tabooed. The officials appointed include Mr. Smart (ex-Director of Publicity at Australia House), Deputy-Director of Migration); Mr. Sharp (of the Victorian Agency), chief clerk; Mr. Tartakover (New South WalesJ, berthing and despatching; My. M'Lean (an 6x-farmer, New South Wales) and Mr. Reid-(an exfaTjner, Victoria), counter, interviewing; Messrs, Boult and Robbing (Victorian Agency), nominations; Mrs. Layard (formerly of the Amalgamated Victorian and New South Wales Emigration Agency), offlcer-in-charge of domestics; Mr. Baynea (Queensland), industrial specialist; and several clerks representing Queensland and Tasmania.
