MASTERTON, This Day. The vital statistics for JMasterton for the month of February were as follow : Births 20, marriage* 16, deaths S. Record entries nave been received for the Master-ton Horticnltnral Society's Show, which is to be held on Wednesday. • The Australian cricketers were officially welcomed to Masterton on Monday afternoon. They were later given a game of lawn tennis, and in the evening were entertained at a. concert. The. weather is dlightfully fine for the opening of the match against a Wairarapa. sixteen today.
One bankruptcy was recorded in the Wairarapa during the month of February. Mr. G. R. Sykes, M.P.. in an interview, stated that he regarded the closing .down of the Waingawa Freezing Works is a very serious matter for the district. Farmers in tho district are becoming alarmed at the prospects. Most of. the farms are over-stocked, and unless the fats can be got away, thousands of sheep and cattle must die of stravation in the winter months.
