MOTOR FATALITY
FALL OF 100 FEET INTO RIVER

PALMERSTON N., This Day.
A motor-car, containing four men—P. Smythe, C. Davidson, Reginald Burnham (of Palmerston North), and another not yet identified—last night went over a bank in the Manawatu Gorge, falling 100 ft into the river.
Davidson died in the hospital from his injuries. Burnham was admitted to the hospital with a dislocated shoulder. Smythe escaped with minor injuries.
The police state 'that the fourth man has not been seen subsequent to the accident.
The motor-car belonged to a local firm. It is alleged that it had been taken from the front of their premises yesterday. In a statement, Smythe saicl he was inviied to accompany the party on a ride lal;e yesterday afternoon. Just after entering the Gorge the steering-gear failed, and the car plunged over the Bank. .
