CARPENTERS' WAGES
EXECUTIVE MEETING TO-NIGHT.,
The imposition of the new standard wage of 2s 9d for carpenters was discussed at a meeting' of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners, held on Saturday aftornoon, .but no statement was made as to any decision arrivod at. It is now reported that seventy men left work rather than continue at the lower scale of pay. Some of these men, according to au official o£ the eocicty, have found work elsewhere at a satisfactory rate, ,while others have gone to country towns, whore work ia offering at 3s per hour, and in some cases at 3s 3d and 3s 6d pen hour.
