The twenty-sixth annual meeting of the Wairarapa Rifle Association opened at the Papawai King© on Saturday, with an exceptionally largt. number of competitors—the figures being over 250— from all over the Dominion. Th© prize money offering is exceedingly handsome, oVer SHOO 'being allotted to the various matches, besides five 'trophies. for the best aggregates. The weather was fine and hot, with, a shifting "mirage through part ,of the day and shooting was difficult. In the BkU'ill match at 300 yards H. Loveday (Hawera) cam© first with 49—a1l bulls, except his penultimate shot. Wright,, a tyro, of Martin-borough, was second, witii a creditable total of 48. During tho Auckland match—soo yards —a gusty breeze commenced to blow. Tbe winner, E. Balbnger (Petone), madia tli© only -possible.
