NOTES AND COMMENTS

(»I "SIR UNCBLOT.")

The committee of the Feilding Jockey Club has decided to postpone the date of receiving! acceptances for its Easter Sleeting to Monday, 21st March. Thi» will enable owners to rice at Maaterton before paying up. The Wanganui Stakes field included the place-getters in the Cup. They all failed to get in the money, the finish being between the useful pair of haudicappere, Marqueleur and Maioha. Tho first named ran. a good race for about a mile and a half on the previous day and finished up in fourth place. Tha King Mark gelding has won. £2835 in stakes this season. He started off badly, and up to the commencement of the Christmas Meeting he had secured only £205, the resalt of being four times placed. Two mow placed performances preceded a win at Stratford, and since then his record is made up of a third in the Taranaki Cup, and wins in the Paul Memorial Handicap, Egmonb Cup, and Wanganui Stakes. Sylvan, winner of the Maiden Handicap at Thames on Saturday last, is one of Hon. E. W. Alison's Australian importations by Treesady—Silvana? byßun--3ook (Carbine—Moonga). Sylvan, a three-year-old, is evidently a useful filly. At Te Kaifci a, fortnight previously, she won the Maiden Handicap, and later in the afternoon came out and ran second in the Welter Handicap. Menace, who ran second to Sylvan at Thames, was among the winners at Hamilton. - Menace is a five-year-old gelding by Elyeian—Te Aroha (Seafcon Delaval—Lottie), and ie a full-brother to Rangi Aroha, who raced successfully in the South Island, #nd half-brother to Lovelight (by Lucullus), a winner in the North. They were bred by Messrs. Al'Nicol Bros, in the Waikato, where Elysian was located about five years before being sold to Mr. W- H. Gafeford, of Oringi, Dannevirke. Solfanello was raced at Taraa*ki, Egmont, and Wanganui Meetings, his record in four starts being one .first, two seconds, and a third. On Saturday he scored from Kinssm, who alw finished next to Solfaneilo on th« previous day. Rossini was among the sßso started division, and will soon be getting a weight that will enable him to win. Demlone, winner of the Scurry Handicap at Tolaga Bay, is one of tho Demosthenes tribe from Kansyl (Lysnar spelt backwards) by Birkenftoad—Lady Reay (St. Leg«r~-Ladybird), a full siatar to Iney and My La.dy. Demfone was saddled up again in the neit race and ran third to Jovial.

AH Cerise again let her supporters dovm in the Matarawa Hack Handicap at W&nganui on Saturday and evidently she will not reproduce her track form. American Beauty, who was not among the competitors on the previous day, carried top weight and beat her halfdozen opponents. The Demosthenes mare, who carries the colours of Messrs. Dwan Bros., is liable to berehandicapped for the Tahoraite Welter to be run at Dannevirke on Wednesday. In the Fordett Hurdles Zola had to concede some of his opponents half a hundred weigiat, and with just under 13.0 no excuses need bfe made for his defeat. The time put up, by Explorer w« probably a. record- for the course, and nearly 12s ec faster than when he was beaten by Goldstream in the same race twelve months ago. Explorer (Kenilworth—Tilga) is a, cast-off from Mr. W. R. Kemball's stable, and is now owned and trained by Mr. J. L. Nicholls, » Wanganui sportsman, in whose colours the imported mar© Catalini. raced last season.' ;

Sea De'il, winner of the hurdle race at Thames on Saturday, must be about the last of the progeny of Seaton Delayal racing. He was foaled in 1912, and is a full brother to Caedmon, both being from Serita (Cardigan—Lady Cecilia).

At the Walle^nd Meeting this month Mr. E. J, Watt won the Oup, of 500 BOYS, seven furlongs, and City Handicap, of 250 soys, nine furlongs, with All Aboard (All Black—Float).

In the Okoia Handicap, Tamatote was ask«d to meet Scion on 111b worse terms than on the previous day, and the Absurd geldiag would probably have won again had be been started. His withdrawal gavo Scion (the Boniform — Lady Jean 11. ■ooh for which Messrs. Riddiford gave 600 guineas as a yearling) a chance to score his first win. The H»w«ra-owiied Armorel, who filled second place, was not among the runners on th« previous day. Sleeping Beauty, who fiHed third place each day, is putting up quite a respectable record as a " place-getter. Scion scored the first win for Mr. Eric Riddiford since he has been racing on his own. Silver Link acted as runner-up to Gloaming in the Taranaki and Egmont Stakes, and was his only opponent in the. Jackson Stakes on Saturday. Mr. A. Alexander's mare is unlucky to bump up against, such a champion, and is just good enough,' to get beaten in handicaps with the weights she is asked to carry. Although he did not have to do his best, Gloaming put up record time for the race. This made his second win in the Jackson Stakes and his eleventh successive win this season. His next appearance will be in the Challenge Stakes at Riccartoa, and after that in the North Island Challenge Stakes and Trentham Gold Cup, after which be "will go into retirement until the spring. The field which contested the. Autumn Handicap at Wanganni on Saturday included Cnicelle and Pasein' Through winner and runner-up in the Stewards' Handicap on the opening day, also two fiesh horses in Vespucci and Bonnie Heather. Vespucci, conceding both age and weight to all his opponents, did his best and heat everything except Agterina, in receipt of a year and 19fl>. The latter was unsighted on the previous day, but did much better on Saturday. Vespucci has not yet won a race in tho Dominion. B. J. Mason has advised Mr. Greenwood to reconsider the offer ho received for him. from an Australian buyer a short time ago. Mr. F. W. Pairey, • steward of'the Nelson Jockey Chub", wsa among tho visitors at the Wangsnui Meeting. Equitable (Hallowmas*— Equitas) opened his winning career in- tho Harrison Hack Handicap at Wanganui on Saturday. He had the lightest weight, and the Trentham-trained Vindictive, conceding 71b, .was the best he had to beat.. The win of Equitable would be some consolation to Mr. S. J. Gibbons for the fcss of th« services of his well-performed half-sister Oratress.

Acceptances for the Marlborough Racing Club's Meeting close on Wednesday next. Acceptances for the Marlborough Trotting Club's autumn fixture are due at the same time.
