MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., dealt with police and maintenance cases st ths Magistrate's Court to-day. John Hyde, a second offending- isebnate, and Peter Mulcahy, a fourth offender, were ordered to pay fines of 20s, or to go to, ■ gaol for three days. Bartholomew Mahoney was convicted on charges of drunkenness and breaking his prohibition' order, and was ordered to pay fines totalled £2 10a. .. . George Arthur Charles Gibba was'fined 5s for drunkenness, and 403 for havingused obscene language in Ghuznee-street Two seamen, John James M'Coy and Peter Singleton, who had committed »n unprovoked . and serious assault upon a man named Edward Joseph Leniston, wer© sent to gaol for 14 days. The pair had accosted Lenibton and picked a quarrel, but tho wharf police interfered, and sent them about their business. They followed Leniston. however, 1 and attacked him, knocking him about badly. A young man, Herbert William Skov. ington, who; in order to ■ impress upon his landlord his righl; to enter his Bedroom, had kicked in a panel of the locked door, was fined 5s for drunkenness and 10s for tho mi&chief, and was ordered to make good the damage he had done, a matter of 40s. ' " . George Tallis IJailey, charged, with tho theft of threo bottles of liquor, some smoked fi"h, nn-pory, and two silver trays, of a, total valuo of £4 7s. tho property of John Alexander Ross, was remanded to appear again on Thursday. Separation, guardianship, and maintenance orders, at the rate of 35s per week, were issued against Arthur Hercules WilJohn Reginald Browning was fined 10d for having disobeyed the provisions of » maintenance ordor made in favour o£ nis wife, and a similar amount for disobedience of an order respecting Iho maintenance of a child. Victor Dayics, who had allowed payments under an order to fall into arrear to the extsnt of, £1 11s, was sentenced to I a month's imprisonment. (Proceeding.) !
