AUCKLAND, This Day. The cricket match, Australia v. Auckland, at Eden Park, began at noon in! fine weather and on a perfect wicket. Auckland won the toss, and batted first, Hemus and. Horspool facing Forsberg and Hoiiiibrook. Both batsmen fell almost immediately, the score being two wickets for 5 nrns. Hemus, b Forsbury 1 Horspool, b HoTmbrook 1 Runs came slowly, and at the luncheon adjournment 27 runs were on. the board—Somervill (not, 'out) 14, Smith (not out) 4; extras 7. ■ . , A light cross breeze 1 gave oppoi-tu.ru-ties to bowlers for swerving. The lefthander, Homibrook, started with an inclination to bowl to the leg side, and Batcliffe, the wicket keeper, r was seen to advantage in taking the ball. Forsberg got Hemus with his fourth ballr— a yoa-ker—that swung, in sharply from the leg. . To the third ball of Hornibrook's over Horspool opened out at a half-volley drive. It'was a fatal stroke, for Homnibrook took a hot catch, onehanded, above his head.

A telegram was received this afternoon' by' the Wellington Commercial Travellers' Association, stating that in. the cricket match at Christchurch, be. tween the Wellington and Canterbury Commercial Travellers' Associations, Wellington had in the first innings scored 202, Douglas Little being stop scorer with 102. :
