DRAPERS' CONFERENCE
TRADE QUESTIONS,

DUNEDIN, 17th February,
The annual conference of the New Zealand Federation, of Drapers "and Clothiers, sitting under . the presidency of Mr. J. R. Rendell (Auckland), continued its deliberations to-day. A remit "That the Government be asked to, institute a postage cash-on-de-livery system in New Zealand," was'ref erred back to the local .associations for further consideration. A discussion on what was regarded as an extensive evil, discount, led to the following resolution being carried: —
"That the giving ■of discounts '. and amount of same is a matter demanding immediate attention and revision."
On the remit respecting .trade information (as published in. the New Zealand press) arid newspaper advertising charges, the opinion of the conference was that access to chartered accounts and circulation certificates should be afforded to advertisers buying space at a continually increasing'charge.
■■ There was ai wide discussion on the Board of Trade Act and certain alleged irregularities of its administration. A delegate stated'that one tribunal, had persistently attacked one- firm by means of upwards of twenty investigations. Schemes of profit-sharing among employees were also widely and extensively discussed. •
For the evening session, the subject was "Tariff Revision," on which topic Mr. E. H. ..yles (Christchurch) spoke from a tariff policy standpoint of Imperial unity within the British' Empire.
