MEETING

CONCLUDING RESULTS

Th© Wellington Trotting. Club's An,nual Meeting on the Hutt Park yesterday was highly successful. Early in the afternoon the weather cleared, and by 1 o'olock there was a large attendance. The events were run fairly close to cardtime, and, altogether, the conduct of the meeting was highly creditable. Speculation on the totalisator, was brisk, and the machine handled the sum'of £22,435 10s, as against .£21,033 last year. Crusader, who was penalised for his win earlier in the day, was recalled when he started before his time, and took do part in the ra.ce. Rita Rye was most in demand, with Ellawood a close second. Never Will went out from the start', and after three furlongs was- just ahead of Plain Rose, with EUawood, Eita- Rye, andi Lady Foster following in that order. After a, mite, Plain Rose broke, and when the stand was reached the second time she was lying fifth. EUawood was showing, the way to Never Will , and Bita Rye. EUawood never lout her premier position, but Eita, Rye moved up, and, finished second, two lengths behind the winner. Plain Rose was a poor third, with Never Will close up fourth. Turo Hewi failed to get going at the start, and when well behind at six furlongs 'he < was taken.oat of the race. Meritorious did not start well, but she no sooner got going properly than she headed the field : and made no race of it. She won all 'the way, finishing up with a 100 yards to spare. Miss Pirate, who was little fancied, ran a good race, and was a long way mi front of Braohycombe.. Time,;3min 47sec.
