THE PRINCE OF WALES

EMPIRE TRIBUTE.

(PROU OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

LONDON, 2nd December.

Whiie there is in London a very urgent need for further hospital accommodation, there is, 'a genuine desire to commemorate in some permanent manner .the success of the.Prince of Wales's ambassadorial tour to .the,, great, self-governing. Dominions of ! the Empire. The scheme which has'now been set'on foot will doubtless ha-^e the-support of,many ot,those in the Dominkms who desire to. express in tangible form their personal liking, for tho Prince, whoso charm and deep; human, sympathies have endeared him to all with whom; he came in contact. . . . '• , Tho Prince'of Wales Hospital, Tottenham^ London, has been closely connected with the Royal House for a great many years. It is the only London General Hospital. with ground adjoining for extension. The population in- the immediate vicinity is . rapidly approaching a million, and since 1906, when thelast beds were added, it has increased by 300,000. In thoso 'circumstances tho Prince hiß heartily approved' the scheme of commemorating hie historic tour, and at the same time, by. raising.£2so,ooo,- helping to solve the serious difficulties in the way of /dealing adequately with the problem of health in the great metropolis.

It was originally intended to' begin the movement towards raising the requisite sum by.having an Empire Tribute Night next week, when every theatre, musichall, and picture-house in London was to be en.fete, speeches were to be made, and: collections taken up by Red Cross nurses. Owing to the menace of Sinn Feinern, however, this arrangement has had to be postponed..' ' • . ■ •-■...'■
