SWIMMING

REVIVAL OF THE-SPORT.

Swimming, in common with other athletic sports =iii" Wellington, received- a set-back during the war, and, until quite.-recently, showed little sign of recovery. Now, however,, it seems to have taken a new lease' of life, and the newly-elected band of enthusiasts at the head of affairs in Wellington appear to be leaving no stone unturned to bring swimming back to the position it occupied in pre-war days. On Monday and Tuesday evenings of this week tests were carried out to select the Wellington team for the Dominion Championships to be held in Dunedin next month. The team selected will be announced in the course of a few days. The centre has the promise of a carnival before the team goes South, and there will also be a big carnival in March, at which Paoa, Kealoha, and Ludy Langer, the American swimmers, will be the great attraction. The centre has also applied for the' Dominion Championships to be held next year. The financial position of the centre is not particularly good, and it is hoped that the efforts being, made to again: establish the sport will result in an improvement in this direction. T^he first carnival will be held on 2nd February in conjunction with the Olympio Council on the occasion of the visit of Miss E. Bleibtrey, world's lady champion. •.-./■■.
