FIVE MATCHES TO THREE.

The final match of, tho New. Zealand . tour of the New South. Wales tennis team was against a. Wellington quartette yesterday afternoon on tho Thorndon Club's dourts. Hard play characterised all the games, and, in fact, the visitors afterwards said tho series was the keenest they .'had played in New Zealand. New South Wales won five matches to Wellington's three, but the result was as nearly as possible four all. The result turned largely on tho doubles between J. C Peacock and R. N. Swanston and the Peach brothers, the New South Welshmen just turning the match in their favour 7-5, 7-5. ■■ Detailed results are : — Singles. Peacock (Wellington) defeated N, Peach (N.S.W.), 14-12, 6-4. Swanston (Wellington) . defeated Watt (N.S.W.), 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. i Park (Wellington) lost to F. Peacock (N.S.W.), 3-6, 0-6. Allison (Wellington) loet to Henderson (N.S.W.), 4-6, 4-6 i . Doubles.. Peacock and Swanston (Wellington) lost to Peach brothers (N.S.W.), 5-7, 5-7. Park .and Allison (Wellington) lost to Henderson and Watt (N.S.W.), 6-3, 0-6, l-6d. : Peacock and Swanston (Wellington) defeated Henderson and Watt (N.S-.W.), 8-6. 6-1. The visitors were entertained before the matches at luncheon at the Hotel Cecil, and left last, night ior Sydney.
