Various sub-committees were appointed at a meeting of the Executive Council of the Wellington Competitions Society, held laet evening, .-vnd will at once commence to prepare for this year's competitions. It was resolved that the sum of £250-which had been guaranteed for the past three, years against financial loss should now be allowed to lapsu. It was suggested that if suitable dates can be arranged with the lessees of the .Opera House the competitions should be held during the September term school holidays. . The secretary s-tated thai the selection of test music with the exception of the choral items had now been completed, and the committee hoped to complete the choral items at an early date. ' , . Notice of .motion was given at the University Senate to-day jhy Professor Rankine Brown as follows:—'\That the Senate would welcome the appointment of a Royal, Commission on the University and University Colleges of New Zealand, headed by some eminent educationist from the United Kingdom, and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Minister for Education." i
