CIVIC INTERESTS
TO THE IBUOf.. . Sir,—As you pointed out in a leading article tho other day deprecatory oritioism of other New Zealand cities is proiitlese, and the, practice of an exchange of goodwill lor tho good of each, Vov tl)is reason both "Brooklyn's" und "Karanga* hake's" ietters in you* issue of thell3th met. were not calculated to do Wellington or Auckland much service. In the Post of the 18th your correspondent "Facts" gives "Brooklyn" a knock so far as the latter's remarks about Dunedin are concerned, but wo agree with you that comparisons are odious,' and' if we cannot find..praise and emulation, then let us think of our own deficiencies and plan how best to improve our own home. There io an excellent opportunity now for every adult person in Wellington to prove his or her sincerity in the ■matter of civic sentiment.' Very'soon we will .have to elect a now Mayor, councillors; and members of harbour board, and Hospital and] Charitable Aid Board. Every person aged 21 and over is ontilled to vote; and on these electors rests the responsibility of Wellington's future. It is not only a privilege to exercise a vote, it is v solemn duty, and the sooner our citizens realise. this the better it will be for everyone concerned. If, on eleption day, names are missing from the roll it is' probably as much_ dus to the doctors' carelessness as anything else. The City Council gives everyono the opportunity to inspect the roll, and if :an elector's name is not recorded the omission can be rectified, in good time if tlio uaual application is made. The municipal electors' roll will clpso on 15th February, so we trust that everyono eligible for enrolment will see that his or her name and address are included, and/when election day comes along, carry out the duty of a good citizen by voting.—l am, etc., f' It. HILL, Secretary, Town Planning Association. .
